The new school building is designed as a compact three-storey building. The main building material is wood, both inside and outside, creating a cozy and pleasant environment for study, sports and leisure.
The building is located in the northwest corner of the plot, leaving the existing connection between Kolde Boulevard and Stroomi forest. The area is designed as an interconnected campus, with a strong axis connecting the public area in the middle.
The entrance to the school building is located at the end of Kolde Boulevard. In front of it is a public square with bicycle parking. Parking is located on the east side of the plot with an entrance next to the Police House, ensuring easy access for those coming from the city.
The school building opens with all its internal public functions towards the public axis in the middle of the plot. The outdoor space next to it supports and opens the school. There is a running track, street basketball, an outdoor gym, outdoor training and recreation areas.

The building, with its public atrium in the middle, is divided into three different levels to provide the most comfortable and rational movement inside the building. The ground floor is a multifunctional open space with a lobby, auditorium, library, dining room, project classes, sports hall and administration roomst, creating such a good connection between the interior and exterior. On the second and third floors of the building there are mainly classrooms that open east-west.
Energy efficiency scheme
The structure of the building is solved by CLT and glulam system. If necessary, the first floor of the triple building volume is solved with a concrete structure.
The facade of the building is covered with a wooden board, on the eastern side of the building black wooden windows and a glass facade system have also been used.
The building is very compact and simple geometry. When designing the facades of the building, the energy-efficient achievement of the building has been taken into account. Sun protection is designed on the east facade of the building to protect the classrooms from direct morning sunlight. Deep window openings protect against overheating. Smaller windows have been designed for the building’s hollow façade to reduce energy losses. The internal atrium and lobby are important to ensure air circulation. The facade elements on the west side of the building between the windows provide shielding from summer overheating. Solar panels are installed on the roof of the upper part of the building, in addition, the building is equipped with its own heat pump.
